Schooling isn´t learning

7_mitText.jpg

Schooling is not learning, it is more about pushing somebody into a system that isn´t suitable for every individual. Especially with the current system it is not suitable for a sustainable future society. Things we connect with school are often about learning, teaching, grades, exams and assessments. But another important factor of school is that it is a social network, a merely safe place for children and a place to connect with other people. The whole network could offer a lot but through the traditional methods that have been used until today it is not covering the full potential. Especially the potentials of teachers are not discovered fully. They could operate more like tutors and supporters, make connections within and outside the school environment (use the world as a classroom) and foster each child´s talents and intelligence by letting them learn independently. Also with the "one-size-fits-all" system, school isn´t working towards equality or challenging the individual´s mind. Through traditional schooling the children don´t get empowered to think critically or across subjects, they don´t see connections between various categories. Starting to de-school school and combining alternative pedagogy methods to with the traditional public education system offers many opportunities for interventions towards change.
