Saturday Clubs

Beeswax wrapping paper workshop

By proxy of the School of Architecture and Design at Brighton University I was part of a project called "SoAD Saturday Clubs". Those workshops focused on recruiting pupils aged between 12 and 15 years from various schools who are interested in studying design and architecture related subjects but are maybe not familiar with universities due to family and social infrastructure. Together with two students of architecture I conducted a workshop about sustainable materials to use for making models in design education and practice. The goal was that each child created one bees wax paper with their own thoughts about sustainability and design drawn on it and cast one object with a bees wax paper (blank) and plaster. They should explore the building, cast objects with their wrapping paper and later work with plaster and sand to create 3D objects. The pupils really enjoyed the workshop and got to experience sustainable and very time efficient ways to create models. With their own designed wrapping papers they also had a memory to take home from this day at university.
